The duo of Zakry, Fairuzizuan doubles the joy for Malaysia in All England Open
The Malaysian men’s doubles team of Mohammad Fairuzizuan Mohammad Tazari and Mohammad Zakry Abdul Latif doubled the joy for country in All England Open as they followed the victory path, set by their veteran compatriots Kien Keat-Boon Heong on March 7, 2012.
The pair, who is playing as independent team, surged into the second round of the event by nailing their opponent German duo Michael Fuchs-Oliver Roth with a convincing margin of 21-19 and 21-11.
The Malaysian duo Zakry-Fairuzizuan will now lock horns with Indonesian pair Mohammad Ahsan-Bona Septano in pre quarter-finals of All England Open.
The men’s doubles expert Fairuzizuan was over the moon at this victory but still he was humble enough to have a critical look on their performance against the Germans.
He said, “It all worked so well for us today. We almost muffed the opening game when we followed the rhythm set by the Germans but, fortunately, we snapped out of it.”
In the first set of match, both teams provided a great show to spectators as they stretched until the end to force the opponent to bow down. The cliff-hanging set belonged to the Malaysians as they registered the final 21-19 score onboard.
The next set proved the German pair Michael Fuchs-Oliver Roth just sitting ducks as their Malaysian rivals Zakry-Fairuzizuan hunt them with significant margin of 21-11.
The Malaysians hold their nerves masterly which fetched them a first prominent success after waiting for seven months as Kuala Lumpur Racket Club (KLRC) players.
The duo work under the supervision of Razif Sidek in KLRC and Fairuzizuan happily gave all the credit to his coach.
He said, “Our coach Razif Sidek told us not to put undue pressure on ourselves and to enjoy our game and we did just that. We will go in with the same mindset in the next match.”
The Malaysians will now try to revive their old chemistry and even if they win against Indonesian pair Mohammad Ahsan-Bona Septano in pre quarter-finals still they have to surpass the World Number one Chinese duo Yun Cai- Haifeng Fu.
Meanwhile, the veteran pair Kien Keat-Boon Heong also buried their Japanese rivals Naoki Kawamae- Shoji Sato in first round match.
They will join Zakry-Fairuzizuan in the second round and will try to edge Chinese pair Wei Hong- Ye Shen in All England Open.
