Question:

The economy blows..how to fix it?

Right now, the economy is quickly going downhill. Over 4 dollars a gallon at the pump is causing huge amounts of price increases (I.E.-Groceries). Also, jobs are making huge layoffs which cripple the economy even worse. Surely one of the presidential canidates have a solution or at least a theory of how the economy can be turned around. For instance, I can't even apply to a simple warehouse/distribution job because all of the employees who have been laid off have started to take the jobs that teenagers and younger people usually do. All this is happening, and I'm not even going to get into the conflicts we're having in the middle east..

What is your opinion of the economy and how do you think it can be fixed?

  1. And this ain't even the beginning.  Things will not be fixed in the way you think.  The money system as we know it now will become extinct.  But for the ones who loveGod and follow His commandments, this is a time for celebration.  We know the ending of this story, and it's the beginning of eternal life with our Lord and Savior.

  2. First off, ignore the idiotic ravings of iblong2terry.  Now, as for the economy don't believe all the negative news.  Things will be a bit rough for the next year or so but things will stabilize and life will go on.

This is how I think it will be fixed and improve.  First, the price of oil is about to fall dramatically.  Don't believe the folks who say it's going to hit $200 a barrell.  It won't.  There are already signs that it is approaching a peak and once all the energy speculators realize this the selling will be quick and dramatic.  In fact it would not surprise me to see oil at about $75 next year.

Second, the housing crisis will finally bottom out and things will start to stabilize by the end of this year.  We still have a little ways to go but once people realize we've bottomed out they will start jumping into the market.

Hang in there.  We'll be just fine.

  3. sadly I don't think there is a quick fix but things can be done to help make sure things get better.

The oil problem can start to be fixed with investment in alternative forms of energy, if we have different ways to fuel are cars it will

    1) cut the price of oil since it lowers the demand

    2) create some jobs

another way to help the job market is try and cut down on the jobs that get outsource to other countries that can be down here.  some was to do that is to put a tariff on products that are imported to America so that they cost the same (or a little more) as a similar item made in the states.

although this will mean we have to pay a little more on some goods it would also means that companies will be a bit less likely to move jobs over seas and keep (mainly manufacturing) jobs in the US.

investing in business in inner cities and rural areas that have been hit by a bad economy for a long time.

  4. Cornonakidcacher is right with his optimistic outlook.  I think people are being too paniced over the economy.  Things will get better.  It has been worse before- ie. Great Depression- yet we'll recover and rebound.  Time to stop worrying and start taking action to fix the economy.

I've heard predictions saying that we'll rebound at the end of the year.  Its normal for economies (market/capitalist) to go in booms and busts.  We'll rise out of this and get better.

Now let's go for the solutions- one is to have a less aggressive foreign policy.  That would help a lot, especially if we don't go into unnecessary wars.  Avoiding wars we don't need to be in will save us money we can spend in other places and reduce tensions (and can have a good effect on gas prices).  It would also do relations much better-- perhaps (and this is an early premature idea) we can have a 'several' nation talk with Iran like we did with Korea (except with the situation-- we would get Kuwait, US, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Israel, Russia, China, Britain, France together at the same table.  Sure it'd be a lot and enemies would be staring at each other but its worth it from what I hear).

We also need to provide tax cuts for the middle class and poor.  For the former, that would stimulate the economy.  For the latter that would help them be more lifted out of poverty and to deal with a bad economy with less pressure.  Expand EITC for the poor and create parternships between businesses and communities-- I like another responder's idea of bringing investment to areas that aren't doing so well.

When possible, we can try reducing national debt.  Maybe the deficit instead.  We really have to take care of that.  Its too HIGH.  Once we do that we can help get debt smaller.

Once we can get it smaller, then things can get better too.  We must address the debt within a few years, during the next President's time.

We also have to invest in alternate energy.  Cleaner coal, solar, wind power are worth looking at.  Hydrogen.  Cleaner things, technology, and that will help get jobs!

We also must work to get things better with Iraq.  Work with our generals and leaders to create a good solution and help fix Iraq-- that will get us to spend less.  Let us clean up the mess, but not stay there permanently (and have the Iraqis pay more costs too, we're paying A LOT).

We also need to work with businesses and experts to create programs to educate people about responsible mortgage buyin' and credit.  People bought mortgages they couldn't pay for and spent so much (in general) that they were in debt.  So people must know and/or start spending carefully; also, there must be a government started investigative team into fraud.  They must investigate mortgage and stop it from continuing as well as stopping the fraud from occurring again.

We must also work for a better Afghanistan.  Work with our military leaders and experts on making the country better.  We must help improve it and hopefully improve the security strength there as well.  And if we are able to successfuly withdraw a bit from Iraq (or reduce some troops because of better times and improvement), we need to have additonal troops in Afghanistan (after giving substantial rest).  There aren't enough soldiers in AFG unfortunately...its sad and dangerous.

Lastly I need to explain why I want USA to invest in alternate energy.  Gas prices are too high.  So we need increased alternative energy.  Incentives for them and for companies to make better, cleaner larger MPG vehicles (which would be awesome).
