I want to do an experiment showing the effects of soaking seeds on seed germination.

I don't quite know how I would set it out though, or what to do.

if anyone has done an experiment like this before, i would love to hear your ideas.

Thanks

  1. You can conduct the experiment as follows. 1 Keep some seeds without soaking as control. 2. Make 6 lots of  100  seeds each, weigh each  and then dip each lot for 5 min, 10 min 30 min 1h, 2h, 3h in water and weigh it again and  keep it for germination.

    3. Take observations of the temperature during germination

  2. back when i was an independent grower i'd sprinkle the seeds on a paper towel, roll it into a tube, place it on a plate with about an eighth inch of water and put it in a warm cupboard. keep it wet. nothing to it.

hope that's what your looking for.

  3. I just wanna point to notes here:

1- if your seed of interet has a hard shelf it is better for your experiment, you soak the seeds (like date seed). But if your seed of interet haas a soft shelf you just keep them wet by using a wet towel (like wheat seeds).

2- Do not forget to repeat each treatment at least for 3 times to give them a statistical meaning.

And at last one idea: You can soak the seeds for different duration (5 hours, 12 hours and 24 hours) to have more interesting treatments. Good Luck
