Question:

The employer is requesting a longer resume of 4 pages! What formatting should we follow?

My husband has applied for a job. He is a Mechanical Engineer and he is applying for a job in Atlanta, GA with a very reputable, international company. He followed the usual guidelines by sending a resume restricted to one page. The company replied and said they would like him to expand upon his resume and make it at least 4 pages. Neither of us have ever been asked this by a prospective employer before. Does anyone have any guideline suggestions as to how he should format it? I thought instead of summarizing with bullets he could use full sentences, expand each section out as much as possible, perhaps talk about projects he had worked on.

Would this work? Any other suggestions or perhaps website links?

Thanks!

  1. Might I suggest that you contact your local state's

    UNEMPLOYMENT DEPARTMENT on this matter...

This is something I find VERY UNUSUAL..

Usually, it is common practice for a resume to be

one page only. Two the very maximum......

You might contact them and one of their counselors in

the local office might help you out or DIRECT you to

a "non-profit helping to find work for unemployed people".

You might want to tell them that he has a standard one page

resume and the company he applied to would like him

to submit a "4 page resume".

The counselor can probably tell your husband on what to do on

    something like this.

AGAIN, this is VERY UNUSUAL on a company requesting a

    multi-page resume.
