  1. The cameras are just a cash cow for the government.

There are dangerous drivers and drunk drivers on the roads who don't get caught by these things.

The most effective anti speed device I have seen is the type that flashes at the driver if he/she is exceeding the speed limit.

If the driver exceeding a 30 mph limit, then the camera flashes '30' .

Now that one always makes me sit up and take notice and i drop my speed accordingly.

Not only does it tell me I am going a little to fast...but it also warns anyone coming up behind me and they also slow down accordingly.

No sudden braking, no road rage, no accidents.

And no revenue for the goverment.

  2. Nah, they will come up with some crass reason as to why they don't get rid of them.  I might be old fashioned and unpopular but what do you think of this:

    1) An individual driving at night on a motorway, good weather, well maintained vehicle doing 120mph?  Me- no problem let him go on his way uninterupted.

    2) An individual driving at night ona motorway, good weather, well maintained vehicle crashes into a bus on the hardshoulder and kills several people.  Make them pay the whole cost of sorting everything out and putting everyone back in the position they were beofre the crash.  I mean everything, the cost of the police, the firebrigade, the ambulance & hospital costs, the court cost and a huge amount of compensation for the family of the individual killed in the crash.  You can never replace the death of a loved one, but life becomes a lot more bearable with a couple of million quid in the ban and why shoudl the tax payer fund the cost of one individual doing something stupid?

  3. If they get rid of them then they will have to find another way to rip us of , As a mechanic i have recovered hundreds of damaged cars from speed camera sites caused by cars  suddenly braking and tail ending the car in front,  and many people injured by them . they are more dangerous than any loony motorists . But i wouldn't,t hold your breath while they debate it asphyxiated drivers are even more dangerous.

  4. I hope not, and I doubt it. They do more good than harm and the people who complain about them are the people who are driving too fast.

However, there are a few speed cameras that are placed in stupid positions and do seem more like cash generators than safety devices. Moving a few to more sensible locations would be a good idea.

  5. They should scrap speed cameras and go back to the older and better way of catching speeding motorists IE: real police on the road. Speed cameras criminalise anyone who rises above the limit whether they are being dangerous or not. Anyone knows the governments lie that speed kills if that was the case why are all racing drivers not dead? Real police is what needs to be put back in charge of the roads they use discretion and common sense. If you were to be caught driving at 80mph on a motorway in good conditions and without making any silly or dangerous manoeuvre's a policeman in most cases would ignore it or at worst give you a warning but a camera your nicked no matter how your driving was. If they could make a camera that caught idiots on hand held mobile phones then i would be all for it as this is a far more dangerous thing to do than speeding. But sadly they cant make money out of putting policeman back in charge of our roads and catching the much more dangerous drivers than a person just creeping over the speed limit.

  6. I would put speed cameras on every motorway bridge. Anything to curb the idiots that you see on a daily basis. Law abiding drivers have nothing to fear from the cameras. It's the pr*cks that think they are entitled to break the limit that whinge about the revenue!

  7. Bad, very Bad idea, we have enough idiots driving around over the limit without encouraging it further, more speed cameras at unmarked sites along with an increase in penalties is what is needed. Kill the speeding before it kills us.

  8. Now, now you know the government prefers us to call them "safety cameras" so we don't think of them as being cash machines for the goverment

Looks like their days could be numbered though.
