Question:

The entry system to my building is phone based. Can I connect this to work with my cell phone?

Basically, downstairs if someone comes, they key in a code that is for my unit, however, rather than buzzing an intercom in my unit, it would make a phone to ring. I'm trying to avoid buying a phone for solely this purpose. Just wanted to see if anyone knows if there is a way I can connect my cell phone to serve this purpose.

  1. no, the intercom/doorbell system is hardwired in the basement, near where the phone lines enter into the building...

it is wired from the dial tone side of the terminal to a 66 block, and goes into the intercom system, comes back out of the intercom system onto the 66 block then to the inside (riser) side of the terminal up into your apartment...

as for the previous answerer, it is possible with out expensive equiptment to connect VoIP to a door answering system, but it requires using 2 pairs of the riser cable, one to back feed your VoIP dial tone down to the intercom system, and another to send it back up to your apartment... and verizon (or whoever your RBOC would not be happy with you using the riser cable in that way... you could also talk to your building owner, or condo board about running a line from your apartment to the intercom system...

  2. I have the same thing going on in my Condo in Miami....but you only can use a landline!!

I use VoIP for the past years and my cell-phone, but just for the entry downstairs, and the front-gate.......we need that stupid expensive landline with AT&T....I hate it!

We talked about it at our monthy condo meeting, but its a no-go......I know there is a system out there, but they just wanna save money again!!!
