the equator is merely the area of the earth that recieves the most concentrated and direct sunlight. so the equator is usually warm because more sunlight means more heat. but equador is a mountainous country, and the increased elevation affects the temperature. so on a particularly sunny day it will be quite warm, but if its less sunny, then the higher altitude will cause the temperature to drop a bit.
