The extinction of polar bears natural?

When you think about it animals becoming extinct has been going on since the beginning of the world. I don't think it would necessarily be a bad thing.People did not become emotionally involved when dinosaurs died out. Why would it be any different with a polar bear other than it is cute. Isn't this just another gradual natural process of evolution like the dinosaurs?

  1. Species don't just die out. There is always a reason for it and it's always because some natural balance was thrown out of whack.

  2. Yes, it is part of the natural process.  Over 99% of the animals that ever exsisted on the face of the earth are extinct.  That alone should tell us it is natural for animals to become exticnt.

Humans may be speeding up the extinction of polar bears, but even if humans did not exsist on earth, polar bears WOULD have become extinct at some point.

Any animal that slates itself to be so very specialized really runs the danger of becoming extinct during any little geographical/enviromental/weather "bobble."

Polar bears are very specialized bears.  They live and hunt on the ice.  They require the cold, and the pack-ice to hunt the seals they depend on.  If anything happened to warm the earth up (a natural cycle that has happened many, many times in the earths geographic history) the polar bears are in trouble.

A bear, like the black bear is going to thrive, no matter what.  They can eat, hunt, and live in very nearly every single climate, from the humid, and hot of Florida, to the cold and snow of Alaska.  Black bears, because of their adaptive nature, will do well, no matter what the climate tosses at them.  Polar bears MUST have the cold.

Even if people believe that THIS round of global warming is entirley man causes, the fact of the matter is the earth HAS heated up many, many times, before humans were around.  Polar bears would have gone extinct even if humans were not around.

Koalas, and Pandas are other good examples of animals, that while fuzzy and adorable, have by their very specialized nature (diets mostly) have slated themselves for extinction.

Really, ever animal species will eventually become extinct.  The ones that specialize have simply slated themselves for faster extinction.

  3. NO, THE POLAR BEARS ARE NEARING EXTINCTION DUE TO THE ENCROACHMENT OF MANKIND ON THEIR NATURAL HABITAT AND THE LOSS OF HABITAT DUE TO GLOBAL WARMING RESULTING FROM THE BURNING OF FOSSIL FUELS AND WOOD.

  4. Dude,

It isn't a gradual process! Humans are responsible for the deterioration of polar bears. In prehistoric times humans weren't there, thus they could have no emotional connection. However Polar bears live in our era and we are to take good care of them. We aren't though, because of our avarice for electricity. I mean we need electricity, but not as much as we are currently using. The polar ice caps are melting, thus the polar bears are losing homes. They then try to swim to the next one and before they get there they are fatigued and they then die.

In a nutshell, it isn't just another gradual process, because polar bears weren't meant to be extinct! I'm sorry to be a tad harsh but on the topic of global warming I become emotional.

       PS. SAVE OUR POLAR BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. People weren't around when the dinosaurs died out.

If polar bears became extinct due to natural processes, that would be one thing.  However, if they became extinct because of human activity, that would be an entirely different matter.  We need to be better stewards of our planet and the life upon it.  Biodiversity is a great advantage of our Earth!  If you are not concerned about the polar bear becoming extinct, will you be concerned about the next life form to become extinct?  Where do you draw the line?  Will it finally be when humans are on the endangered list?

  6. The present population is up 300%.
