I recently got a ferret, He was a rescue. He's very sweet, loving and loves getting attention. He hasn't been the handful I thought he was going to be.

Before I got him, He hadn't been played with in a couple of months, I don't even think let out of his cage. I've been playing with him quite a bit, or try to. He sleeps most of the time! I read you have to play with them 3-4 hours a day.. But I'm lucky if he's awake and active an hour a day! Is this normal? Or is he sick??

  1. Ferrets spend about 20 hours a day sleeping. Yours sounds perfectly normal. Good luck with your new ferret.

  2. Excessive sleeping is very normal in ferrets. They spend most of their lives sleeping (up to 20 hours a day!). So I wouldn't worry about it.

  3. how old is he it could be down to his age they sleep more when they get older or if its hot were you are it could be down to the heat good luck

  4. I think with the condition he was once in, he is still ajusting to the new changes. He's not use to being able to be out of his cage. It may take some time but eventually he should start to get more active the more you play with him.
