The field of MayBank Malaysian Open getting strong – Golf News
The major winners, Michael Campbell and Todd Hamilton, have confirmed to participate in the Maybank Malaysian Open at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club from April, 12 to 15, 2012.
This also confirmed the participation of five major winners in the tournament, as Martin Kaymer, Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel already announced their participation in the event.
According to Mohamed Adam Wee, Chief Marketing Officer Maybank, it is good to see the major winners confirming, which will in turn strengthen the field.
"Headlined by some of the world's top players, the calibre of the world-class field that is set to gather at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club is once again a resounding aye for the prestige and long-held reputation of the Maybank Malaysian Open as the
place where champions are born!" Wee added.
Meanwhile, the defending champions, Matteo Manassero has also confirmed to return to the field this year.
Manassero recorded his second career win on the European Tour last year, in the Malaysian Open, followed by a win in the Castello Masters Costa Azahar in 2010.
With the victory last year, he became the youngest golfer in the history of the European Tour to record a triumph.
Therefore, he was then awarded with The European Tour’s Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of The Year award for 2011.
Manassero said that he would love to defend his title at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club this year, as it gave him real confidence last year.
The tournament officials have also expressed their pleasure over Manassero’s participation in the event that is scheduled right after the Masters Tournament.
"It has been a time-honoured tradition of the Maybank Malaysian Open that the reigning champion returns to defend his title and we are pleased to have Matteo Manassero in the line-up for the 2012 edition of the National Open,” Wee said.
He further stated that Manassero has the skills to successfully defend his title in Kaula Lampur. Therefore, it will be interesting to watch him back on the course to cheer up his fans in Malaysia.
