The fins a betta fish flares???

Can a betta fish lose food though the fins he uses to flare? I know this is an odd question, but if anyone has any idea please let me know

Not at all.

The fins you talk about start right near the Betta's gills.  When a fish chews something up, like food, or gets something in it mouth like rocks that is doesn't want, it will spit it out through its gills.  I am sure that is what you are talking about; your Betta is just chewing an then a little bit of food is coming out through his gills.

If I am off the mark let me know but I would bet that is what it is.
