I am looking for a good spot to watch the fireworks that won't be sooo crazy busy like downtown was last year. Anyone? Thanks!

  1. I've watched them lots in Forest Lawn.  From 17ave SE turn south on 26th street.  There's a park on the west side of the road.  I've tried parking near there and it's impossible unless you get there 2 hours prior.  I park 2-5 blocks away in a parking lot and walk over.  It's a good place to see the fireworks.  It's a long drive for me but on Canada day and the last day of Stampede I think it's worth it.

Another idea is to look on a satalite enabled map like maps.google.ca.  Or download Google Earth from google.com.  Take a look around the Stampede grounds for a park or road side that seems clear sight to the grounds.  Go and visit that site on your way home from work or to work.

  2. A common place to watch the fireworks is from the "scotmans hill". It's the residential area that's right behind the stampede grounds.  Goto Spiller Road SE and turn up 6th street Se.

go around about 10pm. park your car along the street somewhere, bring some lawnchairs, walk up the hill and set up your chairs on a good vantage point.

When the fireworks go, you'll have an unobstructed view. It's the best place to be if you're not sitting in the grand stands.
