  1. Braid lines are very useful when you need to keep fish from running into structures. A 50lb test braid line will be as thin as a 12lb test mono line and it doesn't stretch. When lines don't stretch, you'll be able to pull the fish away from structures faster. Braids are quite abrasion resistant too. Braids could be very soft which could increase the chances of strikes because baits "flow" more freely in water. Properly kept braid lines could last a VERY long time. You can always use fluorocarbon leaders in combination with braid lines. Please keep in mind that fluorocarbon leaders are invisible only when there's light; fluorocarbon leaders will not work too well under low light conditions or very deep waters.

FYI, PowerPro makes good braids. Seaguard is a fluorocarbon leader that isn't too cheap. I don't think you want to spool your reel with Seaguard fluorocarbon line. Less expensive fluorocarbon leaders will also work; you'll just need to check your leader frequently.

  2. I put this answer on your first question. It'll apply for saltwater as well. Good luck.

I use Spiderwire braided line in the low-vis green color. It's very thin, but works really well. It's not as expensive as some of the other braids either. Since it has no stretch it's a lot easier to get the fish in faster before it heads to cover. I've held onto some monsters on even 10lb braid over rip-rap rocks, and it still didn't break. If you want even greater invisibility use a Flourocarbon leader on it, I usually use Trilene, but with the green color you will probably be okay without it since it's so thin.

It's not likely that you would need 40lb for a 10lb fish when it comes to braided line, 20lb is going to be quite strong enough and is thinner, but if you feel you need 40lb, it will still be a lot less visible than mono and you'll have better luck.

Good luck. Hope you bring him in.

  3. Seaguar fluorocarbon is for saltwater use, it can be used for salmon in fresh water in the lower breaking strains. Grand max is the fresh water version of the line, the saltwater stuff is on a blue spool, called "Ace Hard"
