The flood gates of the Dubai World Cup Carnival 2012 open with the Meydan Masters International Jockeys’ Challenge on 5th January
The Dubai World Cup Carnival 2012, will engine off with the Meydan Masters International Jockeys’ Challenge which will be held at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 5th and 6th of January.
The two day contest features four races that will put forth a point based competition that will be won by the jockey who succeeds in accumulating the most points.
As is reflective from the name, it is a talent display by the ‘masters’ of riding as getting to participate in the Meydan Masters International Jockeys’ Challenge does not come easy.
There is a lineup of twelve who battle for the title. There cannot be a truer test of the riding skills, as only the cream of the profession has been invited to participate in this prestigious event.
It is an invitational that sends out invites to the jockeys that are found in their top forms, both physical and on the record, for participating.
The jockey group that has gathered up this time, in the third running of the Meydan Masters International Jockeys’ Challenge, has won a grand total of sixty-one group races during the last year, 2011. They include the champions of the Dubai World Cup
itself, Caulfield Cup, King George Vl & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, W.S. Cox Plate, Melbourne Cup and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
Besides the terrific collection of the Group 1 races, there is a flowing stream of seven of those who have won the Classics, for instance the Derby, St Leger, 1000 Guineas, 2000 Guineas, Japanese Derby, Irish Derby and the Hong Kong Derby.
“To have such illustrious names competing in the Meydan Masters further advances horse racing in Dubai on the world’s stage,” Meydan Chief Executive Officer Saeed H. Al-Tayer said.
France will get represented by Maxime Guyon, Christophe Lemaire and Mickael Barzalona while coming from the Great Britain and Ireland will be Tom Queally who rides Frankel, William Buick, the St Leger winning jockey, Ryan Moore and Colm O’Donoghue.
Italy will send their already three time Dubai World Cup winning jockey Frankie Dettori and Mirco Demuro. Australia’s Craig Williams will be part of the competition alongside Andrasch Starke from Germany and Kenichi Ikezoe landing in from Japan.
As the Meydan Masters International Jockeys’ Challenge has taken place only twice yet, 2010 winner was from the Great Britain, Richard Hills, and the last year’s champion was Calvin Borel from the United States.
The lineup this time has the Melbourne Cup winner for 2011, Christophe Lemaire from France, from the same country we have Maxime Guyon competing, who is the regular jockey of the unbeaten, Black Caviar, and from Great Britain the jockey of the unbeaten
Frankel, Tom Queally. Not really very far behind is Mickael Barzalona with the 2011 Epsom Derby under his belt, while Ryan Moore from the Great Britain has won the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup in Japan in the year 2011.
These riding legends when get grouped up with the sorts who have been winning the Dubai World Cup itself thrice, Frankie Dettori or have the St Leger title against their name in case of William Buick, it becomes impossible to predict that who will
end up where.
The series of the four races on 5th and 6th of January will start making the results somewhat apparent as each one of them will start hitting in the points but till then telling the best or the second
best apart is not possible.
