“The focus is on good weight,” says Giants' head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner for Tim Lincecum
The San Francisco Giants outplayed almost every leading team and won the 2012 World Series title, the most coveted prize in the Major League Baseball. The Giants’ entire roster played well and played their part in overall performance of the team.
However, some of the Giants’ players still could not perform well and disappointed their management. Starting pitcher Tim Lincecum was one of them who were hammered with big pounding.
He went with 5.18 ERA along with 10-15 win-loss, 190 strike-outs and 1.47 WHIP. His performance was quite low in comparison with some other Giants’ pitchers.
However, as soon as the World Series winning roster settled after many days’ jubilation, the team management started looking deep into Lincecum’s deficiencies and evaluated a brief report about his current difficulties regarding controlling the ball.
Giants’ head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner is also part of a programme who has been assigned to prepare Lincecum for the next Major League event. According to his recent comments, Lincecum needs to put some extra weight to throw with some more velocity.
Giants' head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner, who spoke by phone with Lincecum last week said, "The focus is on good weight, If he can gain five or six pounds of good weight this winter and come into spring, that would be what we're looking for."
Groeschner said, "He felt good (in 2012) and it wasn't like he was in bad shape, This is strong kid we're talking about. Could he be in better shape? Certainly. We'd like to see his legs a little stronger, work on core strength. We just don't want him to start on a deficit."
Groeschner added, "Timmy just seems more eager to get going this winter and do it, He's ready to go for it.”
Though Lincecum did not perform well in the latest addition of Major League Baseball season, but he is still considered one of the most talented players currently playing in the Major League.
He is four-time All-Star and two-time World Series winner and possesses extraordinary baseball skills and if his latest training with the team head trainer worked out well, his performance will be much higher next season onwards.
