Question:

The four day work week... am I getting screwed over?

My company wants to implement the four day work week.

Supposedly I do not apply for it. I wanted to know. Is the company legally allowed to exclude any employees it wants to or do they have to make it fair for everyone?

They are giving this opportunity to the hourly workers in production. I assist in production but am not a manufacturer.

Can I legally fight this if they will not let me vote for the four day work week?

I work forty hours a week five days a week, and am hourly.. so I should be able to vote for it.

  1. If you get the same pay I don't understand why you would be opposed to it.  All the people I know who work a 4-10's week love it.  They get a 3 day week-end every week.  Less driving so they save on gas (if you commute.)  One less day to put up with the supervisor and/or the jerk who works next to you.

Unless you have union contracts that cover this situation, the company generally has the right to set the work hours.  They could change the work day from 8:00 am to 5:pm to something like 5:00 am to 3:00 pm.  They have to give sufficient notice but this is their right.

  2. Well you will love it.  We do that at my work and it's great.  Just get into work earlier and you have a 3-day weekend every weekend.

As far as voting, I think your company establishes work schedules and unless you are in the union, you can work their schedule, or work somewhere else.  But it's a great schedule.
