  1. Here is the site that you can get it from.  This is a for sure.  I used it not long ago.  Any other site I went to gave me the run around.

  2. www.annualcreditreport.com

It allows you to view all three credit reporting agencies reports.

No gimmicks, no charges, no surveys.

It's not advertised, but it's the real deal.

**Print out your reports, so you can always go back to them.

  3. The government doesn't provide it - they mandated that the credit bureaus provide it.  It can be had at www.annualcreditreport.com

  4. it's not the gov't that offers it, it's the credit bureaus themselves because the gov't passed a law requiring free access

  5. www.annualcreditreport.com is the website.  It has the 3 major credit bureaus.  When you go to it just pick one for now.  Then go back in a few months and do one of the other 2.  Then go back in a few months and do the last one.  The first time I went I made the mistake of going to all 3 credit bureaus and then I had to wait a year before I could go back.  You are entitled to a free credit report from each one so you might as well space it out and check your credit 3 times a year instead of just once.
