I'm extremely happy Dinara Safina won, but I was wondering why the French crowd booed her (Sharapova)?

  1. The French crowds are the worst behaved crowds anywhere in the world.

They booed Martina Hingis because she made comments about Mauresmo's sexual orientation.

They booed Serena Williams for God knows why, perhaps  because she's  black. They even applauded her double faults once. I'm no fan of Serena, but that was in really bad taste.

They booed Rafa 2 years ago, again God knows why.

They like Federer and Justine because they speak French.

Now they're  booing Sharapova. Was it Capriati who showed the French crowd the middle finger once? I like her.

  2. Hmm, poor sports those French.  I think she's the victim of overexposure, people are just sick of seeing her and she's made a few moves lately that have her coming off as more of a diva.  Her little episode with the photo shoot back in April made her sound like a whiner.  Then the fact that she's #1 only because Henin retired irks some people, especially since she was, in my opinion, overrated in the first place.  Of course, there is the controversy over her grunting - but that's been going on forever.   It's okay not to like her, but actually going so far as to boo her is just poor sportsmanship and bad manners as far as I'm concerned.  After all, she is there for our entertainment, the least we can do is show some appreciation for that.

  3. Well she called the French crowd F------- As***** while serving at 3/2 down with two break points against her quite loud.

PLEASE DON'T TELL ME YOU  MISS THAT!!!

That was one of the highlights of the match and thats why she was booed. I watched the match from beginning to end and when she screamed that out loud even the commentators (Jo Durie and Mats Wilander were like OMG)

You say something like you are asking for it especially from the French.

  4. Sharapova's shrieks are annoying and she an ice queen. definitely the french crowd were rooting for the underdog and she didn't disapoint.

Well, Sharapova can engage herself in a lil retail therapy. She's in a fashion city anyway. While her fashion sense is going up, it seems her game isn't going to the same direction.

  5. The REAL reason why they booed her was because she was shrieking and screaming louder than her normal levels. This is already annoying to hear on TV and I can only imagine how much more annoying it can be in real life. It's also amazing how whenever its a very important match and when she's on the verge of losing she screams even more louder and it's obviously a form of cheating to really annoy the opponent. I know the Williams also sometimes scream louder when things get intense, but at least their screams aren't high pitched and extremely sharp. The French crowd is unpredictable and rude at times, they really don't care who you are, they will give you a boo if they feel like it. Sharapova has also been acting like a Diva lately which probably a lot of people don't like...

  6. Many people don't like her. Maybe because she wins too much and acts like she walks on air, or maybe they are tired of seeing her. I would like to see their reaction to Ana, she is the two Shara in terms of beauty, when she wins her GS, she will be IT.

  7. they have no aptitude to love her

i think french people are very snobbish and they don't understand as much as a dog

because if they do, they didn't boo her

    but we all love maria

  8. I think that is pretty rude, but she is annoying with her grunts. It gets kind of old after awhile. I am not a fan of Sharapova but she deserves to act like a diva every once in awhile. She's young, a multi-millionaire, beautiful, and has won three grand slams. I've heard that she is a nice person, who cares if she is "diva-ish"? Look at every female in Hollywood, they act exactly the same yet people pay millions to see their crappy movies, buy their overpriced clothes and books they don't write. Anyways, I am happy Maria is out, I want someone new.

  9. Maybe they don't like people that are more snobbish than themselves.

  10. The French are fickle and a little sensitive.  One moment they love you, but they can turn on you in a heartbeat it seems, even their own players.  I'm sure they were pulling for Safina because she was the prohibitive underdog, although on clay against Maria maybe not so much.  But to actually boo Maria is a little surprising, perhaps she did or said something that they found displeasing.

  11. Rude much?

"When you're hated, you must be doing something right..."

  12. and also, she said this

"I can't please everyone; that's not in my job description," she said. "I'm an athlete. I go out there and fight my heart out. I mean, they paid for a ticket to watch me so they must appreciate me on some level, right?"

    i really hate her ^_^

  13. oh probably because they're tired of her winning and especially of her yelling and grunting on the court.

She probably made gestures or audible comments that weren't appreciated too.

Perhaps the crowd could show a bit more respect but the RG crowd has never been shy to show its preferences(usually for French or French speaking players). They aren't too fond of Nadal because they are tired of Spanish players always winning the French Open trophy. As Nadal himself has said,it's no big deal. It's their city, their country, their court, their tennis match!  They enjoy letting their hair down.

The U.S. Open crowd is pretty boisterous too. And if you have ever seen a match in Argentina when a local is playing against an outsider, you will learn a new dimension to the word!

I'm glad for Safina too. Everybody likes to see the underdog win and she's pretty modest and humble.

  14. Thats okay. I hate the French.

  15. they did? how rude

i couldn't watch the match, so i don't know, but maybe she did o say something during the match that upset the people.-

anyway, i'm so happy dinara won!!
