I got my Honda civic 2003 4 dr car checkup today. Dealer said that front left hand brake is almost dead but the front right hand brake looks like new and all the other bakes are also ok. He has mentioned " Brakes noise when braking left brake(Red) , Right looks new". We were planing to drive this car for 300 miles (going) and 300 miles (coming back) this weekend.

I dont know what des this comment from the dealer means. Does this needs immediate attention.

Also note while driving I dont feel anything. Car is running fine and to me brakes are also working fine

  1. I would not drive that trip with bad brakes.  You should have it repaired before a long trip.

  2. the drivers side front pad will usually wear down a bit quicker than the passenger side, because it is closer to the master cylinder. But if the difference in pad thickness is great, than you may have a defective driver side caliper.

I would definitely fix it before your road trip. Go to another shop for a second opinion and ask to see the brakes and get a clear explanation of the defect and consequent repair.

Good luck and have a safe trip...don't mess with safety.

  3. take it to another place. it is strange the the right break is dead, and the left is like new.

They should be evenly worn out

brakes are tricky, and expensive, because if you wait too long to repair brakes, you make also, have to repair, rotors, $$$

  4. i take it there will be others with you.   if you want to risk not only yours but their lives don't bother.   personally i wouldn't.    what is a few $$ compared to a life lost.     i would also suggest getting a second or even third opinion for peace of mind and ask them how safe it would be.    i hope you will do the right thing which ever way and may the force be with you.
