Of course.  In ancient egypt, their "art" wasn't art, it was their record of history.  In Greece their art was a tribute to their gods.  In much of the western world, art is simply to be enjoyed.  In caves, there are drawings that many consider art, but it was actually just a record of their daily lives.  Many places make art for religious or ceremonial reasons.
