The future of Detroit Red Wings after Brian Rafalski announces retirement

Detroit Red Wings was already facing lots of problems after it faced defeat at the hands of San Jose Sharks in the semifinals of the Western Conference Finals series.
Things have got even more interesting now that their star player, Brian Rafalski, has announced his retirement. Red Wings is already facing the problem of some of its big names leaving the team.
Nicklas Lidstrom, Red Wings’ captain, isn’t sure whether or not he would play for another season. Hence, the issue of his retirement is hovering around the team and it will be hoping that Lidstorm decides to stay on for another season.
In response to questions asked regarding Lidstrom’s retirement, Detroit’s general manager, Ken Holland, said, "We need great news on Nick Lidstrom. If we get great news on Nick Lidstrom, we need a defenseman or two (in free agency), depending on where their
salary is at. We're kind of done up front. Our top three lines, for the most part, are in place. Our No.1 goal is defense and we've got to rebuild a little bit now. We're hoping on Nick Lidstrom (returning)".
If Lidstorm also retries, Red Wings will definitely need some good players to replace the two big names in the team as well as in the National Hockey League. There are some skilful players in the team that can become an integral part of the team with a little
polishing.
Players like Jakub Kindl, Brendan Smith and Doug Janik are among the players that have the potential to become an important part of the team.
With the addition of players like those mentioned above, Red Wings’ roster will see an inclusion of some young blood in the team. Kris Draper is one player whose position in the team is still uncertain and it will be a very tough decision whether to include
him in the team or not.
Red Wings definitely has a lot of talent so they don’t need a complete transformation but only a few changes. They have the capability and the strength to beat any team and all they need to do is put in some hard work and come out confident on ice, something
they lacked in the first three games of the series against San Jose Sharks.
