The FIGC President gave his rationale behind calling all the weekend games off, and stated that defibrillators will become mandatory in all stadiums from now
on.
All the games had come to a halt after news broke of the tragic death of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Piermario-Morosini-c29986. Morosini was on loan to Livorno from Udinese, and was plying his trade in the
Serie B for this season. His heart gave way in the match against Zdenek Zeman’s Pescara.
The player was subsequently taken to the hospital where doctors tried to revive him to live again. However, the resuscitations proved to be ineffective and the player was
declared to be dead by the doctors.
Following the incident, all the matches were called off. However, it is still not decided the date when those matches will be taking place.
Abete further went on to state:
“They will decide whether to recover this round later or push all the fixtures back by a week. We did not take into consideration the option of playing all the games on
Sunday, as we wanted to send a signal amid this tragedy.”
The kick-off between AC Milan and Genoa was about to take place before the match was called off. Abete further stressed that there was immense support on the decision they
made, and further stated:
“There was great support from
CONI President Gianni Petrucci, while I also spoke with the Presidents of the
Lega Pro, Players’ Association and others. The Federation took the independent decision, but found no disagreement anyway.”
The life and struggles of Morosini were highlighted following his death. The midfielder had led a tough life after losing parents at a young age and losing his brother sooner
after that. His remaining relative was his sister, who was financially dependent on him.
In a benevolent act by Livorno and Udinese, they have stated that they will look after the financial concerns of Morosini’s sister. The two clubs have pledged to make a
fund for her, which would help her through these trying times.
Abete showed his deepest sympathies for the family of the deceased and stated that they would take the necessary measures to try and ensure that such instances do not happen
in the future.
