The gas hand in my mustang

Before you start the ignition of your car, where you gas is rested is that "empty" My gas hand in my 04 mustang rests well below the red line however my fuel light comes on once the hand touches the red.

  1. The gas gauge hand is run by the sending unit float on the fuel pump.It is activiated when voltage is applied. When you shut the car off there is no voltage.Once you start the car and voltage is applied the gauge starts to work thus your light comes on due to low fuel.


  2. when you hit the red you should have up to 5gal left in your tank. just think of it as a heads up to stop to refuel.
