Question:

The gear that sits on the back wheel on my bike and holds the chain has something coming out from under it?

My sister and her friend broke my bike. I don't know how. There's something sticking out (more like sticking downward) from the gear holding the chain on the back wheel, and that has caused the chain to loosen, making it so I can't ride my bike. I've tried to push that up and back where it is supposed to go, but its not working. How can I fix it?

  1. It sounds like a spring in your rear derailer is broken.  You will need to have it replaced by a qualified bike tech.  I don't think you can get the spring separately.  So you will have to replace the whole derailer.  The spring can be over stressed by shifting gears with alot of pressure on the peddals.  so stay in the saddle when shifting up or down, front or rear.  happy riding
