  1. Greek indeed, but more specific than this.

The Hellenistic period for the Greek people begins at the death of Alexander the Great. To their own benefits, his generals divided his gigantic Empire, spreading from Mace done, at the North of Greece, down to include Egypt and going far East to India, including today's Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan. This part of the world's history lasts a few hundred years, and ends with all these lands controlled by despotic regimes being absorbed either by the Romans, or other conquerors at some point.

So the Hellenistic civilization includes very disparate artistic, cultural, legal and political characteristics of this huge, semi-unified empire, where classical Greece inputs merged with local differences.

It is, up to a certain point and with many flaws, the achievement of Alexander's dream, this world-size, multicultural Alexandria. It ended obviously not as he imagined it, but it remained the echo of his efforts affected by greed and opportunism. It was also the direct result of his monolithic political organization: kill the head and the whole organism loses life.

Decadence mixed with renewal of perceptions. It was the first time we could see such an open "discussion" between West and East in all cultural aspects.

I suggest you take a quick look in Wikipedia, you might a learn a lot on it.

  2. Well they would need to be a greek speaking or greek colonized area.  And the arts, religion, and philosophy would be largely similar to that of classical greek culture.
