Makes no sense. How do you fall like that and win a medal in the Olympics? This medal really degrades the value the olympics. The judges aren't from China either, so it's not wrigged. What do you think about this?

  1. cuz there is pressure  on the judges to favor the chinese.

  2. Yes.  She did fall on her knees.  NO.  She should NOT have won a medal.  The judges aren't experienced and they are Playing in China.  I'm sure there was probably some outside influence on the Judges though.  Just my Opinion.

  3. because the most that can be deducted from a dismount is 7 tenths of a point.  apparently judges thought she did something else right. also it appeared everyone was getting two attempts.  her first attempt must have been good enough for the bronze.

  4. That team that won women all-around gymnastic. I thought I saw a certain Alicia Sacramone fall of a beam and THEN sat down on floor routine. (the bronze team didn't fall off or sat down on anything...)

What do you think about this? I cry foul, Americans bribed them judges!

  5. She certainly did fall on her knees, but the new scoring system seems to put less emphasis on mistakes like these in the idea of "fairness." Part of the problem is that the judges who have to judge the individual event finals are sometimes less knowledgeable about the sport because none of the judges can be from the countries that are competing in the event. So, the countries that have strong programs are going to have more knowledgeable judges who are not allowed to judge the event finals. The task falls to less experience judges from countries with programs that are not as good (i.e. Australia).

  6. Yes I know, Alicia Sacramone should have won the bronze. What happens as far as the judging goes is whatever countries are competing, like US, China, Russia, etc are not allowed to have judges in the panel. So the judges are made up of countries that are not as keen in what they are looking for. Most of the judging countries have never had an olympic medalist from their country. I know that doesn't excuse the mistakes, just what happens I guess. But yet the girl from China (who is too young to be competing anyways) did fall and yet she won the bronze. This judging is ridiculous.

    hope this helps*

  7. She got the higher score because her difficulty level was higher than the others. Also, it is an average of your two vaults.

It stinks, but that's the rule; so we gotta deal with it.

  8. I've been trying to decipher that the whole thing for a while. It doesn't make any sense. I guess it has something to do with going first, sometimes it ends up being a disadvantage. I don't know, I think they need a better judging system.

  9. I understand, because she got bronze and beat a girl from the US who did so much better....I saw an interview on tv about the new scoring system. And they said while the American girls vault score was not low for her performance, the Chinese girl's score was too high.

They also said that for judging, if there is an American girl there can be no American Judge, so if there is a girl from that country there can be no judge from the same country. Thus leaving judges from more "inexperienced" countries. They said that that is the problem. Some countries dont have as much experience with gymnastics so while the scoring wont be biased, it wont be as true as it normally would with different judges.

  10. Ok, people who aren't familiar with gymnastics don't generally understand this (The judging process, and nobody likes it, it was much better prior to 2005 when scores were judged out of 10). Let's take a look at the scores:

    Sacramone:

    Vault 1: A: 6.30 B: 9.450 - Total: 15.750

    Vault 2: A: 5.80 B: 9.525 - Total: 15.325

    Final score : 15.537

    Cheng Fei:

    Vault 1: A: 6.50 B: 9.575 - Total: 16.075

    Vault 2: A: 6.50 B: 8.550 - Total: 15.050

    Final Score: 15.567

A is for the difficulty, B is for the execution.

Chung Fei DID get deducted because of her landing, as you can see.

Cheng Fei's routine was much more difficult than Alicia's(She had a .9 higher value I believe?) , so she had much more starting points to begin with. Plus, Sacramone didn't do a great routine ethier, she didn't fall but she didn't stick the landing properly. Chung Fei's first vault alo earned the highest score of all the women with a 16.075.With such low difficulty ratings for Alicia Sacramone( 6.3 and 5.8) she would of had to make vaults, which were not particularly difficult, perfect(which she wasn't) in order to earn her the Bronze Medal. It wasn't bias towards the Chinese, it was just judging.

  11. because she made up for the fall with something else, the ENTIRE score isn't based on just the fall, and plus her relatives probably have ties to a part of the chinese mob and if she didn't atleast get a medal the judges scoring her probably wouldn't make their flight home.
