The globetrotting Snow Fairy has been made favourite to win the Darley Yorkshire Oaks
The 4-year-old bay globetrotting filly, Snow Fairy, has been announced the favourite and sent at 7 to 2 odds, to win the Group 1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks for 3-year-old and beyond fillies and mares, over a distance of 1 mile and 4 furlongs on 18 August, 2011,
at York.
The 4-year-old daughter of Intikhab, Snow Fairy prepares herself to take on the first three finishers of the Group 1 Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh on 17 July, 2011.
The trio consists of Blue Bunting, who won the Darley Irish Oaks, Banimpire finished second and Wonder of Wonders, who went on to finish behind the two for the third position.
Trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni, Blue Bunting under Frankie Dettori dwelled in the mid division way back in the 7th position in the field of nine with a moderate speed to go about.
Under minor urging from Dettori, the horse shifted gears and jumped from 7th position to the 5th with 3 furlongs to go.
Quick thinking by Frankie Dettori made Blue Bunting switch places and make the run from the outside with a furlong remaining and from then on the pair ran on well in the final furlong to lead and beat Banimpire by a whisker.
Trained by Ed Dunlop for owner Anamoine Limited, Snow Fairy has had two starts in the season, appearing in the mid season in her season debut in the Group 1 Coral Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on 2 July, 2011, where she finished fourth in a field of 5, 9 ¼ lengths
behind the winner, So You Think.
Her last start was at Glorious Goodwood where she participated in the Group 1 Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes, over a distance of 1 mile and 1 furlong for all fillies and mares.
Frankie Dettori, her usual ride, guided the filly to press leaders after a reasonably good break. She got out placed by the winner, Midday, with a furlong remaining and couldn’t find the lead after that.
Midday defeated Snow Fairy by 2 lengths to win the race.
Now Snow Fairy is sent at 7 to 2 to win the Darley Yorkshire Oaks, where other than the mentioned trio, she will also face Sir Henry Cecil trained Vita Nova and her Coral Eclipse rival, Crystal Capella.
