The great contributions of Collins-Parker to the success of SDSU – Volleyball news
Deitre Collins-Parker, who recently got three-year contract extension, has been leading the women’s volleyball team at the San Diego State University (SDSU) for last three years.
She accepted the influential role of head coach at SDSU in 2009 and fulfilled her duties in a great way.
In the last three years, she has led the Aztecs to a huge success. That was one of the reasons which tempted the team-management to extend the contract of Collins-Parker.
After accepting the offer of working for SDSU for three more years, Collins-Parker stated, “I'm excited that I'll be able to continue building a great programme here at San Diego State. We made some good progress during our recently completed spring season
and I'm looking forward to the fall. With the players we have returning along with our new additions I think we have a chance to compete for a conference championship.”
During the last season, the San Diego team produced an overall record of 18-10, which also included the 10-4 conference record. The Aztecs earned an honourable spot in the Mountain West region as they claimed a second place finish. It marked the first time
in SDSU Programme history since 2002.
Likewise, previously the team scored 18 victories only in 2003 season. Parker has really done a great job in putting the Aztecs back on the winning track.
Furthermore, she has great many plans for the coming seasons. Now that she also got contract extraction, she would get more time to work for the betterment of SDSU Volleyball Programme.
Parker is a 1995 graduate of Hawaii, who also did her bachelor of arts in broadcast communications. After serving many years in the volleyball field, she is on the member list of USA Volleyball (USAV) Coaching Accreditation Programme. She is also the known
as the CAP level III accredited coach.
She joined the Aztecs as fourth head coach by replacing the former coach Mark Warner, who officially retired at the end of the 2008 season. Warner spent a great deal of time with the Aztecs. He mentored the team for 13 years. However, the SDSU squad received
a perfect replacement in the form of Miss Parker.
Collins-Parker came to San Diego State after serving in the shoes of head coach for five seasons at Cornell. She guided Cornell squad to two NCAA tournaments and also to three Ivy League titles. She completed her five-year tenure at Cornell from 2004-2009.
Before Cornell, Parker also served as the head coach at different schools such as South Alabama, Northern Arizona and Houston for one year each. Moreover, she remained attached with U.S. Junior national team as head coach in 1998.
She had a great wealth of experience when she joined Aztecs three years ago. She worked really hard to help the SDSU squad to catch the limelight. The team saw considerable change under the visionary leadership of Collins-Parker in last three years. Next
up, the coach has the daunting task to enable the team to improve its winning record in the 2012 season.
