we never got 2 see the best of sanchez,he was underrated & so talented.the only loss on his record was a robbery losing 2 the hometown favorite by a bogus decision..sal sanchez knocked out a few BHOFamers..& was cut short of his career at the age of 23,after sanchez defeated the great azumah nelson don king gave sanchez a brand new porsche as a present, that present would bring him his tragic death..till this day i wonder "what if"?what if sanchez didnt die and continued his career,he was set 2 fight alexis arguello & j.c. chavez..i believe sal sanchez couldve been one of the all time greats..here is a video of sal sanchez koing the best puerto rico had 2 offer(wilfredo gomez) & also koing the best africa had 2 offer(azumah nelson) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJUttwIuJ1s

  1. Sanchez was a great no doubt.  The Azumah Nelson fight was awsome.  Wasn't it a 15th round KO?  Thats what greats do....

He was a boxer puncher, with mad skills with power in both hands.  He changed the image of the "typical" mexican brawler.

  2. i agree i think maybe he could have been top 10 all-time greats. sad he  had to go early

  3. i agree, as will most (if not all) of the regulars on here.....sanchez was one of the greatest featherweight champions of all time as well as -with the exception of chavez- argrably the greatest mexican boxer ever.

unfortunately we will never know how great he could've become, and i have posted questions here before asking what everybody thought would happen if sanchez had lived and fought nelson again and arguello.....and it would be interesting to know how he would have fared against jc chavez going after his first world title in '84.

  4. agreed

  5. Salvador Sanchez was one of the greatest fighters that I had the pleasure of seeing fight.  He could box, could punch and he an an iron chin and an iron will.  I saw him beat Danny :Little Red" Lopez, totally dominate Wilfredo Gomez, and knock out the great Azumah Nelson during his career.  I believe that as talented and tough as he was that he would have beaten Arguello and Chavez in my opinion.  Despite us losing the great Sanchez so early in his life, I still consider him an all time great.  Had he lived, he would have just added to his legend and certainly would have been an all time great.

  6. No doubt he was great and would've had an excellent shot at being the best in his division.  Heart, will, chin, power, stamina -- a formidable combination on display here with his dismantling Gomez in round 8 and finally overtaking Nelson by TKO in round 15 after handing out a steady pounding over the course of the whole fight.  Too bad he left us at only 23 and with so much more to look forward to.
