The greatest fight ever would be Ali vs Clay.Who would win?

Clay being pre-forced layoff due to the draft pb and Ali obviously being post that pb. Right after Ali-Frazier 3 a computer simulation determined Ali would have won this bout. I would agree - any ideas on this bizarre fight?

  1. Only the Promoter since Ali IS Clay

  2. I feel the Ali version would out think the Clay version, and although Ali did not have the legs to do as he had done in his younger days, his game plans/strategies were legendary and to go with his chin and stamina, I would give the nod to Ali.

  3. Because I am a intelligent man I assume you mean would the younger version of himself beat the older version? Because it is the same person. But without a doubt Clay would win because that's when he was at his peak of speed, timing, stamina, counter punching, and lighting fast foot speed. A little inside info, all Ali used to do for training was jump rope and shadowbox , along with some light sparing that all he did to get in such unreal shape. And thats how he got his foot speed so fast, when he used to do his amazing shuffle, from jumping rope, and God giving talent.

  4. I think its a retarded question, if you got in a fight with yourself, who would win a 20 year old you or 30 year old you. Who knows? who cares?

I hope you do know that Cassius Clay was given the name Muhammad Ali by Elijah Muhammad after winning the Heavyweight title. He was first called Cassius X, he was later bestowed with the Muslim name Muhammad Ali.

Ali always considered it an insult to refer to him as Cassius Clay which he related to his slave name.

If you asked Ali this question he would probubly tell you that each oh himselves would throw a phantom punch and knock the other out and it would have been so fast no one would ever see it.

    anyways, dumb question

  5. Ali's peak was against Cleveland Williams in 1966 and probably the 3 yrs he lost during the layoff. His foot speed, hand speed and ability to stay on his toe and move were never equalled by himself or any other heavyweight before or after.

The Ali after the thrilla in Manilla was never the same. That fight took a lot out of him. He should have quit then and maybe he would be in better shape now. (Maybe)

But make no mistake Ali wasn't nearly as fast on his feet after the layoff as he was before! If you have a great jaw, and great speed, you usually win!

Experience helps in any sport, but there is a reason it's considered a young man's game. Also there aren't to many fighters than are better at 34 then they were at 23.

  6. clay was untouchable at that time. ali ahd a long layoff there is no way he could get back in that type of shape to fight a young clay.ali had slowed down by then.caly was and is the pound for pound worlds best  fighter. i used to watch clay and ali on wide world of sports.

  7. ali will still win

  8. I think Ali will still win.

  9. Ali would win. All is true about Clay but the most impt thing is ignored or not known - It was hidden for a while.  The fact is Clay had very poor hands, meaning he suffered from some kind of medical problem.  His hands were always in pain.  As he got older it disappeared and so Ali had MUCH greater punching power. Ali could hit the big bag.  Clay could only hit the "Bag" when it was filled with dish towels which eased the pain of punching but led to a weaker punch. That was always the issue with them ah him whatever..   Clay's greatest weakness was punching power.  He won by hitting his opponent 4, 5, 6 times to 1.  Despite what others have posted - punching power is NOT lost with age - at least it is the last thing to go.  See George Foreman if you doubt it.  That is pretty much common knowledge.

Guy with first answer - ALI / CLAY same person.  VERY GOOD!!1  I believe the question states that!
