The grid of last seven teams finalised – 2011 FIVB World League
The Intercontinental round of the 2011 FIVB World League rounded off on Saturday, 2nd July. The successful teams advanced to the next round, while the low performance teams got eliminated from the competition.
At the end of preliminary stage, seven out of sixteen teams were dropped out. They settled down in the last seven positions on the ranking chart of 2011 FIVB World League.
10 Finland
11 Germany
12 France
13 South Korea
14 Portugal
15 Japan
16 Puerto Rico
The Men’s National Volleyball Team of Finland settled for 10th position in the 2011 FIVB World Standings. Finland was placed in Pool C alongside teams from Argentina, Serbia and Poland. The Finnish team couldn’t perform up to the mark and lost most of their
matches. They lost the first week matches to Portugal but managed to score one victory in second week of prelims.
After dropping both of their matches in third week, Finland clinched one match victory in the next week. In the 5th week, they held off Argentina for victory in a tough match. However, Finland finished the 2011 FIVB World League Prelims in a great way and
posted two consecutive defeats over Portugal. The ending was great but it couldn’t help Finland to play in the Final round. They attained 17 points and captured tenth slot.
Germany was kicked out of Pool B of the 2011 FIVB World League. The European team had tough competition with Russia and Bulgaria, while Japan didn’t create much trouble for Germans. Like other teams, Germany appeared in 12 matches in the preliminary robin
round. They claimed 5 matches and collected 15 points. The German Head Coach, Raul Lozano had planned something big for his team but the crew could only finish in the 11th spot.
Next on the list is National Team of France, which entered the competition under the command of head coach Philippe Blain. France opened the campaign in Pool D, where it had to deal with teams from Italy, Cuba and South Korea. French guys couldn’t deliver
a convincing performance and suffered a lot of set-backs. They dropped nine of their matches and success in only three matches was not enough to promote them in the next round of the tournament. France got hold of 12th position on the ranking chart.
Another team from Pool D, South Korea followed up France in the 13th slot. They lagged behind France with a slight difference of just one. Koreans played 12 matches and compiled a final score of 3-9.
Portugal was the lowest scoring team in Pool C of the 2011 FIVB World League Prelims. They captured three matches and bagged 9 points, which helped them to occupy the 14th position.
15th and 16th positions were allotted to Japan and Puerto Rico, respectively. Japan was dropped out of Pool B, while Puerto Rico eliminated from Pool A.
