The guest volleyball teams on the move - See you in Tokyo mates!
A little silence is always better before a big storm. That is what currently going on in the volleyball scene. The 2010 FIVB Women’s World Championship is just around the corner and teams are busy packing up their stuff to travel to Japan. The women’s mega
event will be kicked off on October 29 and wonderful combats among the women’s volleyball squads will take fans breath away up till November 14th, 2010. A total of 24 women’s teams from five different continents of the world will make their way
to Tokyo, Japan, in order to attend the 17th edition of FIVB World Championship.
Since there is not much time left on the dial, some of the teams have arrived in Japan, while others are just in the process of finalizing things.
Algeria - CAVB
The North-African team from Algeria has arrived in Japan and they have started preparations for the competition. Algeria will be playing in ‘Pool A’ of FIVB World Championship along with Serbia, hosts Japan, Poland, Peru and Costa Rica. This is the first
time that Algeria has qualified for this championship and it is definitely a big milestone for the team, which comes under the label Confederation Africane de Volleyball (CAVB).
The team will play two friendly matches before the official start of World Championship. It will help them familiarise with the climate and enable them to perform in a better way. The Algerian squad is more than excited to play at this level with much bigger
exposure of international audience. Algeria will open the tournament by taking on Peru on 29th October, 2010. The team is determined to display exceptional game and climb up the stairs of fame.
Puerto Rico – NORCECA
The Puerto Rican team is scheduled to hit the destination Japan on Saturday, 23rd October, 2010. The news was disclosed on Thursday that the team will reach Sendai at the weekend. They will start their practice session by playing two friendly
matches with Sendai University’s team. After that, the team is scheduled to move to Hamamatsu on Wednesday. The head coach, Carlos Cardona has put so much effort to prepare the team for this big competition. Puerto Rico has been included in Pool B and it is
accompanied by Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, Brazil and Kenya. This is their third participation in the FIVB World Championship. They clinched 12th spot in 2002 and 15th in 2006. The team from Brazil and Italy are big-shots
in Pool B and Puerto Rico is scheduled to face Italy in the opening match on October 29.
Russia – CEV
Russia’s Women’s National Team will travel to Japan on Saturday, 23rd October, 2010. The team is headed by Vladimir Kuzyutkin, who has led Russians to success many a times. Russia will join the teams from China, South Korea, Dominican Republic
and Canada in Pool D. In the opening match of the championship, they will strike with Dominican Republic.
Russian team is currently enjoying a top-form and has good prospects to create a buzz in the FIVB World Championship. They have recently played a 5-day friendly tournament in Alasso, Italy. Russia proved its endeavour against, Serbia, Croatia and Italy at
Edison Challenger Cup in Alasso. They demonstrated great skills and captured the top-spot. The victory in Edison Cup is clear sign that Russia is all prepared for the World Championship.
Peru – NORCECA
The Caribbean ladies from Cuba will also make their way to Japan at weekend. The team will be playing under the tag of Pool C. Teams from United States, Croatia, Germany, Thailand and Kazakhstan will also be on the board in the same Pool. Cuba has recently
completed the preparatory tournament in Rotterdam, Netherland. The team performed exquisitely and dominated the Dutch-side on their home-courts. Cuban team has a big challenge to face USA in Pool C, which is potential risk for them. Somehow, the team is united
to put a combined effort and earn better status.
