The “heroic” Mark Webber
Formula 1 driver, Mark Webber, has been driving for Red Bull, since 2007 . it seems that he finally got the reward for his consistent driving, as he scored third place, in the drivers’ standings. He is just, 14 points behind his teammate and the 2010 Formula
1 drivers’ champion, Sebastian Vettel.
Mark Webber recently released his new book, titled “Mark Webber Up Front” and revealed in it that he had to drive for the last four races of the season, with a broken shoulder. He hid this secret from his team boss, Christian Horner,who was quite disappointed
and frustrated at the Aussie driver. After he heard this news, Horner got to know, that only his team’s physician and FIA’s doctor, knew about this news, before the season ended. Later on, he was unable to compete in the post-season Pirelli test sessions,
in Abu Dhabi .this was because of the fact that he had to go through a surgery.
Mark fell, while mountain biking with his friend after he returned to his country, during the break between the Singapore and Japanese Grand Prix. This is the second time the Aussie did such a thing. Last year, he fractured his leg while mountain biking
and it is quite unprofessional of him, to let his team down because of such immature acts.
Since then, Mark lost his lead to Fernando Alonso, after the Korean Grand Prix and was unable to perform at his best. However, it is hard to believe that he had a “broken” shoulder and still drove, for four races.
Nevertheless, the thirty-year-old lost the title and after listening to this news, it seems that he deserved it. A driver, who does not respect the title, does not even deserve to race in the sport. After such a stupid act, calling Mark Webber a “hero” is
not justified in anyway. It’s like breaking your own leg on purpose and then, competing in the sport. If Mark really did want to win the title and help his team, he would’ve kept himself away from such activities and avoided any sort of physical injury that
might affect his performance, in any way. “Of course he has obligations to his employer but it cannot have been very bad,” Stuck told the Media. Stuck believes that Mark’s performance in the last four races was heroic but one should ask him, would you go
rock climbing without any safety and risk your physical fitness and abilities, if you were leading the drivers’ standings? I guess not. Stuck said,
“To have that handicap and still show such good performance, I tip my hat to him. Without doubt he did everything possible to try to become world champion.”
