  1. Think of what?

  2. I'm fine with it.  I never really understood why they didn't start with "The Hobbit" in the first place......it's the beginning of the story, where Bilbo Baggins finds the ring.  I read  the Tolkien books way back when I was a teenager, many times over, if ever there was a movie version that did the books justice it is with "The Lord of the Rings".  Books are always better than movies though and I am often disappointed when I watch the movie of a book I already read.  Not this time though.

  3. Only if you bother to go see it. I personally hate seeing the movies of books I love, becasue I can never hol onto my own image of the characters and they almost always either change or leave out one of my favorite bits. In this case however, Tolkien is such a good writer and has created a world of his own so complete that a movie would be a pale comparison and not really related

  4. Gollum became "Gollum" when he allowed himself to be twisted by greed.

Although that is a good point that it can be hard to retain one's own image of the characters formed while reading the novels, I enjoyed very much all of Peter Jackson's representations of the novels.  It didn't take away from the books for me.
