  1. The horizon for a person about 6' tall standing on ground at sea side looking out to sea is about 3 miles. I always heard 7 but perhaps that is from the deck of the average ship. From a hieght of 100 feet it is about 12 miles. The battleships like Bismarck could fire at ships they might not even be able to see.

  2. Depends on the individuals eyesight.

  3. looking parallel it is 18 miles before the curve of the earth drops and you can no longer see it.

  4. The distance of the horizon is calculated as 2.075 * SQRT of height of observer's eye (i.e. your height added to the topography (or ship) rising above the sea level.

    e.g. your height is 6' = 1.829m

2.81 nautical miles or 5.2 kilometres

go to 30m above sea level (bridge of a ship) and your horizon is 2.075*SQRT(30+1.829) = 11.7 nautical miles or 21.7 Km

    Hope this answers your question.

  5. the distance from the sun to the earth? :P dunno, google it!

  6. well on a smoggy day off the coast of Santa Monica, I would say the horizon (that imaginary line where the sky meets the ocean) is about a quarter of a mile, but on a clear day, which is rare in SoCal, I would say about 20 miles. It all depends on the clarity of day, and where you're standing; sea level or a high atop a mountain.

  7. the horizon is the point were the land or sea seems to meet the sky, so at sea level looking out to sea or very flat ground about 23 miles, this is  due to the curve of the earth

  8. Horizon.

    Approximately 30 miles.On a clear day.

If you are looking out to sea,it proves the world is not flat, you can see the curvature of the earth.

  9. depends on ur good/badf eyesight, weather ,topography etc

  10. Depends how tall you are or how high the place you are standing is.

  11. Surprisingly, it is only about three miles from your observation point to the horizon if you are at sea level.

See the "how stuff works" website for a detailed explanation or use the "boatsafe" website to calculate your own.

You can usually see things further than that because they extend above the horizon (for example a large ship at sea may be more than 3 miles away and still be seen because the ship is much taller than one usually imagines).

  12. At sea level, for the average height person, approx. 3 miles. Have a look at the link.

  13. i dunno.
