The hunt for Waqar Younis’ successor continues  - Opinion

Pakistan cricket team has gone through a lot in recent times. The Men in Green are finally over with all the dramas and controversies, as they look to reclaim their lost position in the world of cricket. Even http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193 and Shahid
Afridi have buried the hatchet for the betterment of the game.
Despite all the good things happening the Green Shirts have not managed to find a suitable candidate who will, on a permanent basis, coach the Pakistani team. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, the former cricketer, is currently doing the job
on an interim basis.
The whole coach search saga started when Waqar resigned from the post in September earlier this year and refused to take the job after the former chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 tried to persuade him.
Pakistan team had performed exceptionally well under the coaching of Waqar. The Green Shirts made it to the semi-finals of the 2011 World Cup and the former cricketer had a very cordial connection with the entire roster; however,
things started to change afterwards. The relationship between the then skipper of Pakistan, Afridi, and Waqar turned sour and the former retired from International cricket blaming the later to be one of the major reason for his decision.
Waqar did not sit for very long on his post and walked out of the coaching job after the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045. Initially it was thought that due to health issues Waqar stepped downed from his post and will be going to Australia for
the treatment, but many eyebrows were lifted when he was found commentating in Pakistan’s series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) .
Waqar has recently divulged to the media his reasons to quit the job. The former cricketer said, “It is a wrong impression that I made any excuse to step down and the real reason was that I was not happy with the board. The truth
is doctors have advised me to stay away from jobs and work that carries lot of pressure as I am suffering from a liver ailment. That is why I resigned as coach. I am doing commentary now because it is not a pressure job and I can manage my health properly.”
PCB has been knocking at every door hoping to pounce on a candidate who’ll have the strength to take this pressure job. Certain analysts within the country have called for hiring a native coach as their will be no language barrier
between the players and him. However, the current chairman of PCB Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, has named a few foreign individuals who are on top of the board’s hunting list.
Amougst the most likely candidates who are being considered is former South African International http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571.
Whatmore is vastly experience in this field and was the coach of Sri Lankan team when they won their maiden World Cup trophy back in 1996. He was also the head coach of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 from 2003 till 2007.
Rhodes, on the other hand, does not have any experience as a fully fledged coach. However, the Proteas international has been the fielding coach of the South African team and can help the Pakistanis improve their athletism in the
field.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 has another option at their disposal and that is to extend Mohsin Khan’s tenure and give him the coaching job on a permanent basis, since the team is working as one unit under his control.
