The hutt valley in wellington?

Did you hear about that hostage thingy in upper hutt? It sorta freaks me out. Is the hutt valley really that dangerous?

Is it safe to walk there

Lets just say there is the right side of the tracks and the wrong side of the tracks when it comes to the Hutt.  No more or less dangerous than an inner city suburb in the states i'd say.

My Mum wants to move to Wellington and we're looking at houses and she said no way to moving to the Hutt Valley.

It's probably safe to walk there, it's safe to walk anywhere in NZ.

About a year ago this lady and her small child were held hostage by her boyfriend. He stabbed and killed her. They lived about a 5-10minute drive from my house. It was a very dodge suburb (Brockville) and I live in a safe suburb.

lol thats kinda funny I really dont think you need to pack your undies about it!, I live in UH (born and bred) it wasnt as bad as the media portrayal, the supermarket was in lockdown for safety reasons and within half an hour to an hour it was all over, actually I didnt hear about it until my sister rung me, she lives just down the road from where it happened, she thought it was the supermarket on the megaphone talking about the specials so went down to have a look, it was only when she got closer she realized what was going on!

Yes any hostage situation is dangerous however I think it was blown way out of proportion and more than it needed to be and besides hardly anything happens here, anyway its been big news all day today! the gossip around town is deafining!

Upper hutt is one hour north of wellington city with working class people and yes you can walk the streets night, day whenever with no worries and yes it is relatively safe, I say that because as you know no place is 100% safe.

The lower part of the hutt valley does tend to be a bit more full on however I dont venture that way too often so I really couldnt give you a truthful indication of what its really like (great shops though).

Well i grew up in upa hutt (im a welly grl now) but it was a gr8 place to grow up! I admit thats not a good story but its grossly over-exaggerated! upa hutt has a bad rep which is strange cos its now quite a family orientated suburb. Of course its safe to walk around upper hutt.. its no less unsafe than anywhere else!
