If you were stuck on a desert island with a small population and only had access for 5 drugs to meet the medical needs for you and your stranded companions for an indefinite period of time, what would they be?

  1. Aspirin, ciprofloxacin, epinephrine, ativan, vicodin.

  2. You would have to consider what the most common problems would be encountered assuming all the inhabitants are relatively healthy to start with.  1) infection  2) fever

    3) pain/inflammation  4) allergies  5) anaphylaxsis

    I would choose:

    Ibuprofen - fever/pain/inflammation

    Antihistamine(ie. benadryl) - allergies

    Epinephrine - anaphylaxsis

    Bactrim - infection

Cipro - infection  (these 2 should cover most infections)

  3. Morphine, aspirin, epinephrine, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxasole (I assume you'll let me count that as one), and an endless supply of single-malt scotch.

  4. Aspirin, vicodin, a quinolone, insulin and epinephrine. However I'm also in favour of hanging out on Johns island :)

  5. insulin

    Aspirin

    augmentin

    lasix

    lidocaine

  6. John - bring an extra glass.  I'm hanging out on your island.

  7. A Quinolone, a Cephalosporin, a Penicillin, a Opioid, an Anxiolytic, Maybe Something Else.
