  1. By giving a child the chance to grow plants, it gives self esteem a big boost because they learn some things depend solely on them to take care of them. You can also, teach nutrition and cooking when you have-say-tomatoes. Is a tomato a fruit or vegetable? What vitamins can you get from tomatoes? If you grow and make the food yourself you control what goes into both the garden and the food-ie. Do you use chemical or organic fertilizers? What is the difference between the two? Do you want to grow hydroponically or in the dirt? Is there a difference in flavor? plant growth? You can teach science and scientific method, responsiblility, entreprenurship (cause what will you do with all the extra produce you want to grow?)

On top of all that children love to play in the dirt and grow things. If you cant' get some children in the garden, maybe you can get them in the kitchen or out to look at the bugs.

If you start teaching young, the children will maybe apply it to their adult life.

By the way how many young women know how to cook from scratch? or do they just go to the store to buy ready-made, salt and sugar laden stuff, which they could make cheaper (economics can be taught) and healthier (nutrition class) by making it themselves. And be really honest guys...don't you like what your grandma made pretty well? Not everything she made came from the frozen or prepackaged foods department.
