  1. lead by example is the best answer i have, if a parent has racial issues or problems with people who are different as a parent they shouldnt show these feelings in front of their child, and they should say if a child asks about a persons skin colour etc they should tell the truth.

  2. The best way to encourage children to respect and value other people is to respect and value the child. You can also encourage this behavior by creating an environment that allows children freedom of movement and exploration.

If you are sincerely interested in this, please, please read Ghosts from the Nursery.  This book is just a starting point for child development professionals.  It is amazing to me how important the attachment relatiionship is to young children. And, we as a child's caregiver can be a secondary attachment figure, which is no less important than a parent's.

    Good luck!

  3. the imprtance of it is that they mature into tolerant adults. be a good role model firstly. have resources that show all types of people e.g. people in wheelchairs, with hearing aids and other types of disability. have resources showing different cultures, religions, races. celebrate the festivals relevant to the children that are in the setting and also include other celebrations. have resources showing different ages of people. resorces can include posters. puzzles. books. equipment found in the home .e.g cooking utensils. dressing up clothes. hope this helps!

  4. I think being careful that this does not simply become a lesson that is presented is critical.  What I mean by that is not that we can't present a lesson in this.  I mean to say that we should not think about these things as simply something we can teach and leave behind.

This respect for everyone in the classroom should be the cornerstone for everything we do and our rules should be explained in terms of how our actions are disrespectful to others.

This is, in my opinion, the best way to approach it.
