The inner glass of my canon ixus 750 digital camera is cracked, but not the outer glass. this is weird. ?

does anyone know what the problem is and how this could have probably happened?

Cracked glass is never good.  You will probably have to send it back to Canon to be repaired, at your expense.  In general, lenses have stronger front and rear glass elements.  It's possible that you had some kind of impact damage happen.  The front element was able to absorb it, but one of the inner elements couldn't, so it cracked.
