The intelligence of racism?

The average IQ is 100. But this is said to be average IQ for caucasians. Average IQ for blacks is said to be 85 and for latinos, 90. And in the lead are the Asians with an average IQ of 105.

Is this racism or is it physiological fact? And if it is not racism, should there be affirmative action emplyment policies to hire minorities which are not as bright as caucasians?

  1. How can you define fact based on statistics? Taking it one step further and calling it a physiological fact is even sillier. Physiology is not defined by pseudo-mathematicians with a high school degree and a copy of Excel.

I answered as a question, and in no way implied this was your opinion. I was just being informal by saying "you" instead of "one" in the first question. I hope you'll forgive me.

  2. i'd say that this is racism. The IQ depends on the person not because of there race. There are both smart black, white, and asians. this doesn't relate to race.

  3. There is evidence for a genetic component to intelligence; e.g., selective pressures on Ashkenazim Jews over many centuries increased that group's intelligence, according to mainstream medical researchers.

There are definite differences in various racial groups:  fast-twitch muscles and bone structure facilitate sprinting and jumping among African groups, etc.

The larger cranial size among Asians selects for wider pelvises, as compared with Africans.  Hence, sprinting among Asians is slowed down, as a group, due to the wider pelvises.

Then there is a cultural component, as given by e.g. Dr. Thomas Sowell's "Race and Culture:  A World View."

After all that, if a person's "lack of brightness" or other abilities lead to substandard job performances, is that fair and just to the patients and clients?

Better, affirmative action for the poor of any color, etc., toward genuine attainment, merit-based hiring, etc.  Then everyone wins.  As to the stigma of being less valuable, perhaps society ought look to the dignity of all work and the sanctity of all human life.

  4. I think anyone is capable of learning.  I remember seeing a documentary where a black teacher took 10-20 black kids in Chicago and taught them diligently from kindergarden on.  They were concert violinists by 3rd or 4th grade, they excelled in everything.  Much has to do with the food people eat, the homelife they have, the learning atmosphere.  I think Asians stress learning more.  I also know there is an Asian restaurant in my town where the people there work 15 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Work is their life.  They take life very seriously.  I also think there's the mentality in the black community that if you try to excel, you are "acting white."  So, it is a cultural thing also.  As far as afirmative action policies to hire minorities with lower test scores, I do not agree.  I wouldn't want a doctor operating on me that was given extra points and wasn't as knowledgeable.  I think attitudes have to change from  preschool on, regarding learning.  And schools have to do a better job.  My daughter just graduated.  She was extremely smart in elementary school.  By middle and high school, she was crammed so much information, and so were her friends, that they could only remember this information enough to take the test.  Then, they were given tons more information to assimilate.  The things they learned were far too hard for me to help her with her schoolwork, and I am no dummy.  The textbooks are designed to impress the parents and are even beyond college level, and the kids try to wing it and pass, but they are leaving high school virtually with no education at all.  I have talked to many collegebound kids who don't know basic words or any basic knowledge.

  5. Why does everyone think Affirmative Action is used to hire only under-qualified people???  What company, in there right minds, would want to hire someone who is less competent??  The whole purpose of Affirmative Action was to give equally qualified job candidates of color a chance at a job...because most racist companies wouldn't give them the time of day simply because of the color of their skin.

As far as the IQ question, I wouldn't trust it...the test itself could somehow be biased.  Let caucasians and white americans take an IQ test on the continent of Africa, or Asia, and let's see where the numbers would fall.

  6. Sometimes the truth hurts, but it is still truth.  One intelligent black does not a smart race make.  Intelligence cannot be skewed based on cultural upbringing.  A test is a test.  Those who say that IQ tests should be rewritten for one or another racial group do not understand what intelligence is.
