  1. Originally, what is now the Internet was created as a way to share scientific research and data between scientists and research institutions.

The first ARPANET link was established between the University of California, Los Angeles and the Stanford Research Institute on 22:30 hours on October 29, 1969.

This is considered the "birth" of the Internet.

The orginal internet was called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) developed by ARPA of the United States Department of Defense, was the world's first operational packet switching network, and the predecessor of the global Internet.

Packet switching, now the dominant basis for both data and voice communication worldwide, was a new and important concept in data communications. Previously, data communication was based on the idea of circuit switching, as in the old typical telephone circuit, where a dedicated circuit is tied up for the duration of the call and communication is only possible with the single party on the other end of the circuit.

With packet switching, a system could use one communication link to communicate with more than one machine by disassembling data into datagraphs, then gather these as packets. Not only could the link be shared (much as a single post box can be used to post letters to different destinations), but each packet could be routed independently of other packets.

A form of packet switching designed by Lincoln Laboratory scientist Larry Roberts underlay the design of ARPANET

  3. The original arpnet was used by US army for communication.Later,it was developed to internet.

  4. all of these

  5. It was actually created to make to world smaller..........and it worked.

  6. international communication

  7. C

The ARPANET answer above is quite complete.

The system linked all the labs (military and civilian) and universities that did research for USA Defense.  It was though that the design of the system (no single central hub) would better resist attacks.

Even if you destroyed a few labs, the system could continue to function as the control was distributed.
