The joker on the dark knight...?

firstly such an ace film, it probably was explained but how did the joker get his scars on his face, firstly he said that his dad was threatening his mom with a knife,and said to him 'ill give you something to smile about' a cut a smile in him...later he goes onto say that his wife had scars so he cut them on himself to make her feel less bad and she couldnt stand the sight of him and left...?

nobody knows how he got the scars on his face. it's just a question left unanswered.  He switches stories because each different one pertains to the person he is talking to. He does it to instill fear in each one of his victims. When he talks to Rachel, he tells the story about his wife.  She gets visibly perturbed by his story.

You don't really know.  This is due to the Joker not having a definitive origin tale within the comics themselves.  In the story the Killing Joke the Jokers says it best himself when being asked about he became the way he is he explains one day he remembers it one way the next day another and says something along the lines of if I'm going to have a history I prefer it to be multiple choice.

I had the same question until i came up with the solution that his dad cut one side of his mouth and he cut the other. thats what i think but i dont really know for sure! or mabye he could just be lying about the stories and just did it himself!! he was one crazy a$$ dude!

he got the scars on his face because his dad would stick a knife in his mouth and tell the joker to smile so then his dad would make a smile on the jokers face with the knife

Well, they never reveal the true reason behind the Joker's scars but he does tell two different stories, to further portray how crazy he really is.  Here are, in the exact words from the film, the two reasons the Joker gives for his scars:

Reason #1:

My father was a drinker and a fiend.  Then, one night, he goes off crazier than usual.  Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself.  He doesn't like that.  Not...one...bit.  So, me watching, he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it.  Then he looks at me and says, "Why so serious?"  Comes at me with the knife, "Why so SERIOUS?"  Sticks the blade in my mouth, "Let's put a smile on that face!" And...why so serious?

Reason #2:

So I had a wife, beautiful, like you.  Who tells me I worry too much.  Who tells me I oughta smile more.  Who gambles and gets in deep with the sharks.  Hey, one day, they carve her face.  We have no money for surgeries, she can't take it!  I just wanna see her smile again, hmm?  I just want her to know that I don't care about the scars!  So I stick a razor in my mouth and do this to myself.  And you know what?  She can't stand the sight of me!  She leaves.  Now I start to see the funny side: Now I'm always smiling!
