The junior Greenshirts to feature in 8-Nation tournament in Malaysia in November
Pakistan’s junior Greenshirts will participate in an 8-Nation tournament which is going to be played in Malaysia from November 5. The tournament will serve as a part of the junior Greenshirts’ preparations for the Junior World Cup qualifying round to be
held in next year as there they will be tested against some of the top European and Asian junior sides. The tournament will be of a great worth for the junior Greenshirts as their performance will be judged and their upward improvement will be analysed in
the event.
“After achieving productive results, the junior team will embark upon on another tough voyage that is the 8-nation tournament also having the participation of Germany, India and South Korea,” Rana Mujahid Ali, the chief coach and manager of the junior hockey
team, stated about the recent performance and the upcoming assignment of the junior athletes.
He further stated that a training camp will be conducted in October along with domestic tournaments so that he junior athletes may keep them in good shape by the help of training, prior to the important event in Malaysia.
The national junior team has eventually started to provide the players to the senior national men’s squad as recently four of the junior athletes have been selected in the national team for the upcoming inaugural Asian Champions Trophy to be held in Ordos,
China from September 3 to 11. The junior side includes Muhammad Umar Bhutta, Kashif Javed, Rizwan junior and Ali Shan.
Rana Mujahid, the former Olympian has also believed that there is still a place of improvement in some areas in the junior squad as they will have to focus on the conversion of penalty corners into goals along with an overall improvement in the finishing
ability. They had missed a considerable number of chances in their recent tour of Egypt where they competed against the Egypt Senior men’s squad and clichéd the four test match series by 2-1 while one match was ended in a draw. However, he gave the full credit
of victory to the junior Greenshirts against the Egyptians.
