The kenmore premalite upright seems

the kenmore premalite upright seems to always break the ring around the middle of the suction tube-rendering the thing useless--sears wont sell the ring, only whole tube-tax and shipping is about 50.00---chat rooms everywhere complain about this prob.--what can I do to fix this with stuff I would find in my shop???
