The key of Chinese supremacy in badminton is no secret - Badminton Feature
China has proved itself the greatest nation and super power of the badminton world as it holds the World and Olympic Champion titles in both Men’s and Women’s categories. However, this supremacy is not a story of just few years rather it is a grand saga
of decades.
Throughout these years, China has managed to prevail in all prominent events across the globe and its shuttlers have raised their flag in all esteemed tournaments more than the any other country of the world.
There are also some other countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Denmark and South Korea which have good badminton structure but why only China has ruled the arena always. What are the keys of its supremacy in badminton?
China has very strong badminton culture and according to a recent survey, with a population of over a billion, it is the biggest country of the world where badminton is played the most.
According to national statistics, nearly five million people play badminton professionally while nearly hundred million actively play badminton and follow this game religiously.
Chinese Badminton Association controls all the badminton activities in the country. It organises several domestic events in which top national shuttlers participate and throw an opportunity to domestic players to gain some valuable experience of playing
with the rulers of the arena.
The coaching and training committee of the Association picks the youngsters from grass-roots level and trains them. After years of training when these youngsters make their entry at the international level, they are always well equipped with the modern techniques
of the game which help them to ensure country’s supremacy in badminton.
Moreover, China regularly introduces its young shuttlers at international level and by the time these youngsters qualify for senior stages they are well trained to handle the pressure of the international game.
This is the reason that an average Chinese player matches the skills of world class players of other countries.
State funding and infrastructure is also one of the biggest reasons of Chinese dominance. The professional shuttlers get financial assistance and attractive salaries along with lucrative bonuses which keep financial worries away from them and they are always
focused on their game.
This makes the Chinese badminton programme the best in the world as in most of the other countries players only live on the prize money which they earn by participating in Badminton World Federation events.
The coaching and training system of China is the best in the world which is constantly providing the proper replacements for the legends of the arena. For this purpose, former badminton giants provide their services to polish the raw talent of the country.
This is the reason that, unlike the other countries, China always has a long trail of eligible successors when any of their top players bids farewell.
Malaysia is the biggest example in this case as it won’t have any proper replacement for their World Number one shuttler Lee Chong Wei. On the other hand, there is long queue of Chinese players who can prove themselves the true successors of the badminton
great Lin Dan.
So in a nutshell, the strong badminton culture, biggest talent pool, well integrated domestic system, nationally funded programmes, infrastructure and the superb coaching and training system are the keys to China’s never ending supremacy in the badminton
world.
