yes indeed as you play from club to club from with different players you will gain experience and knowledge, in my first game i learned block anything straight and smash the ball if its wide well not neccesary to loft it but along the ground.

Watch the ball

Timing is essential

Only play shots you're comfortable playing early in your innings (Pick an area maybe that you can score runs in quite freely - if you have a strength playing the cut for instance, decide that you will only attack balls wide of off stump)

Rotate the strike - pick the gaps for singles by using 'soft hands' - clip the ball behind square for example and rack the singles up.

Set yourself little goals as you go along that will help you build a decent score.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: be confident in your ability and ejoy yourself!

Watch the ball closely. Watch it all the way from the bowlers hand all the way on to the bat. I mean all the way. Focus your attention totally on ball. Block out everything else from your mind - your only objective is that ball.

Once you have mastered that, your next objective is balance. Make sure you are comfortable and balanced in your stance.

Timing and foot movement is next. This is by repetition and something that you and your coach can work on in the nets - he knows your style best so can advise your movements as such.

But nothing beats practice, practice, practice.
