Buick Century Custom 2000 with keyless entry. working fine until this morning. Worked once, then it died. We thought it was the battery. Changed battery, but it still does not work. Any ideas what I might check? Tried checking the fuses. does anyone know where the "receiver" for the remote is located in the car? All advice is appreciated.

  1. Perhaps this procedure would be worth a shot?

    Transmitter Synchronization

    Important

Loss of transmitter synchronization will occur when the following conditions

    are present:

The batteries on the keyless entry transmitter have been replaced.

A keyless entry transmitter has been activated many times when out of range

of the vehicle's remote control door lock receiver.

In order to resynchronize a transmitter, press and hold the transmitter LOCK

and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for at least 7 seconds. The horn will

chirp three times when the resynchronization is successful.

  2. press lock and unlock for a short time while near the vehicle to recode the remote. this sometimes takes 30 seconds

  3. the brains for those are usually located under the center console, or ive seen them under the dash sometimes too.  If your fuses arent bad, I would imagine it to be either in need of reprogramming after the battery change, which you can find info online of how to do that.  2nd, the brain is bad, in which case you might just wanna get an aftermarket keyless system, simply for the fact that the dealer is gonna charge you around 500 bucks I would imagine for a new box.

Lastly, bad remote.  Its 8 years old, you know?  100-150 dealer price plus prgramming.

If you need a new keyless system, get the viper unit.  should end up in the neighborhood of 200-225 plus tax,  On board relays (less labor), lifetime warranty, 2 brand new remotes.
