The land down under has produced athletes of thunder (Part 5)
What this really meant was that he only had to hit one boundary in order to retire with a career average of a 100 plus. It was not meant to be and he left cricket with a career average of 99.1. The irony was felt by everyone.
Sir Donald Bradman was a one of a kind player. As most cricket commentators put it, there would never be another Australian or cricketing giant like him. He was unique in every possible way. The ‘Don’ never hesitated when the bowler would run in to deliver,
remaining completely focused to his mission to score like a run machine. The crease was his home, where his comfort was almost tangible, moving about as he pleased, making adjustments as required, making it impossible for bowlers to settle into any kind of
rhythm.
By the end of his radiant and vibrant tenure on the field, Bradman had achieved feats that probably many thought to be impossible before his debut. His personal records included the highest batting average of any individual player, which still stands at
a remarkable 99.9 per match. He also holds the highest batting average over a period of five separate Test match series, that being an outstanding 201.1 over a period of one year.
Among the hundreds he scored, he amassed a total of 29 tons over 80 test innings and is the only human to have made more than 10 double centuries in his career. At the first-class level, Sir Bradman scored 117 hundreds which is by far a record not likely
to broken that easily. He remains the only batsman to score a magnificent 310 runs in a single days play, scoring a hundred in each session of the match.
These figures may indicate that he was a selfish player rather than a team player. However, this was not the case though, as he has also accomplished the top fifth and sixth wicket partnership of 400 and 340 runs, respectively which is still to be matched
by any batsmen pairing in the middle.
Bradman led from the front and helped his side recover from devastating positions to eventually lead Australia to victory. He is still the only player that managed to exceptionally maintain an average of a hundred runs for 7 years on the trot.
Sir Donald Bradman deserves utmost respect and appreciation for his contribution to all sporting nations and for his extraordinary addition to the sport of cricket. He clearly proved that an athlete had no limits to how much he could excel in his area of
specialty. Australia has the right to be proud this gentleman.
There is no doubt that these athletic greats are products of Australia’s synchronized and balanced sporting infrastructure. The sporting structure that exists within the country has placed its priorities in an efficient manner, recognizing the separate needs
of different sporting organizations.
The country is always attempting to involve coaches, young amateurs and skilled persons in various sports’ programs across Australia. Their vision is to consistently improve declining sports centers and making sure private and governmental funds may be utilized
with maximum efficiency, hence gaining a high degree of cost effectiveness.
What ranks Australia amongst the top sporting countries in the world is the combination of a variety of recruitment techniques, high quality of administration, reliable support to clubs through private and state funding, the maintenance of high standards
according to the criteria of the specific sport and its individual need. Sports administrators in Australia are aware of how to keep themselves up to date with any changing patterns within the structure and demand of each sport.
At the end, it really comes down to strength and resilience that Australia’s sporting foundation possesses. Any structure, tangible or intangible, must have a concrete base on which mega frameworks may be developed on.
Australia is a country that has a powerful primary stage for athletes. This provides a cushion for them to rest upon in the years to come, as they will always be in a position to introduce wondrous and spectacular players. No matter what the sport is, Australia
has the intellect and foundation to comprehend how to get their individual athletes or teams right up there in the top rankings.
